Minden native Nevada Army National Guardsman Sgt. Steven Minifie returned home from Afghanistan on Sunday, according to his mother, Sherri McGee.
Minifie serves with C Company, 1/168th General Support Battalion, which left in March 2013 for 10 months of duty, according to public affairs officer Maj. Dennis Fournier
The company arrived in Texas on Feb. 9 after serving most of its mission performing medical evacuations in a military district that borders Iran.
The unit’s eight helicopters have already been returned to Nevada.
Minnifie is a 2006 Douglas High School graduate, and has served in the guard since 2008. He’s a crew chief on a Black Hawk helicopter medevac team. He graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, with an engineering degree in 2012.
The battalion included helicopter companies from northern California and Washington state. The company, which has undergone several unit designation changes during its history, previously deployed twice to Afghanistan and once each to Kosovo in the 1990s and to Fort Carson, Colo., in 2004.
