A California man died of his injuries shortly after rescuers’ arrival at Heavenly Ski Resort’s Boulder Lodge on Tuesday morning.
Witnesses found Fountain Valley resident Wyatt James Colvard, 18, lying in the snow unconscious at 11:45 a.m. He was having trouble breathing, they said.
Heavenly Ski Patrol transported Colvard down the hill to waiting Tahoe-Douglas paramedics, who began advanced life support.
However, he succumbed to internal injuries he sustained in a snowboarding accident, according to Sheriff’s Sgt. Pat Brooks.
Preliminary findings showed that Wyatt died as a result of blunt force trauma.
In a statement, Heavenly said that Colvard was found unresponsive about 11:30 a.m. in upper Nevada Woods, an expert area at the ski resort that is presently closed. Colvard was found to be wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, according to the resort.
Colvard was living at Kings Beach while working at Northstar Resort, according to his Facebook page.
