While on his way to Markleeville last Monday, G. Selby found a small vial in the road filled with gold dust. No one has claimed the dust, so it is believed to have been lost by miners passing through.

The citizens of Minden, Gardnerville and the community in general have declared war on the ruts, bumps and sand piles between here and Carson and Sunday May 17th is the day set that an army of volunteers armed with picks, shovels and scrapers will advance upon the enemy and bring death to bad roads.

A party of surveyors established headquarters in the Farmer’s Bank building at Minden early this week and has started work of surveying the Kingsbury route to Lake Tahoe, which is to be rebuilt into a first-class highway by the federal bureau of public roads.
