The Valhalla Society in Gardnerville will celebrate their first anniversary September 19. Races of all kinds will be held in the daytime, while a grand ball will be held at night.

August 8, 1913

This part of the country had no eastern mail Monday due to a washout near Sparks. Trains have been delayed nearly every day for some time because of conditions of this sort.

August 11, 1933

That federal money may be available from two sources for upstream storage on the Carson River was contained in a telegram received at Minden last Thursday from U.S. Sen. Pat McCarran.

August 8, 1963

A group of Lake Tahoe property owners Monday asked the Douglas County commissioners to tell them how the county stands on forming a Lake Tahoe road district, which would pay for its own roads and snow removal separately from other county residents.

August 11, 1988

Douglas County commissioners have planted $100,00 in “seed money” toward restoration of the old Douglas High School, a half million dollar project of the Carson Valley Historical Society. Historical society member Howard Godecke asked the board for money to turn the old structure into a cultural and community center and museum.

August 8, 2003

With a whack of the gavel, 144 acres of prime real estate in Douglas County was sold to the highest bidder for $14.6 million.
