Remember When for Nov. 20

120 years ago November 24, 1893 Dan Cronin and George Keeler, two young men, left for Hope Valley on their way to California to spend the winter. They were caught in a severe snowstorm and managed to get to a deserted cabin. They found some oat and corn meal mixed and made mush from it. They were immediately taken sick and tried to get to Woodfords for help, but Keeler died on the way. The meal was found to have been poisoned for rats and no emetics were on hand.
