Relay for Life features themed laps, other activities

Relay for Life will be held Saturday, Aug. 11, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Kahle Park.

This year's event will feature themed laps, including Hawaiian, crazy hat/wig, '80s lap, '70s lap, '50s lap, Tahoe pride laps, a Disney lap, a glow lap and a veteran/patriotic lap. Those who do not wish to walk a lap are encouraged to clap and support those who do. Organizers hope to have someone walking the track at all times.

A luminary ceremony - in which bags that people have dedicated to loved ones lost to cancer or in honor of survivors will be lit with battery-charged tea candles - will be held at 9 p.m. Each bag costs $10.

Other activities include Hawaiian dancers, guitar players, line dancing, a disc jocky, food, a bounce house, caricature sketches, chair massages and a silent auction.

The event is free for survivors. A free lunch for survivors will be held at 12:30 p.m. Those who wish to attend are asked to call Maryon Tilley at 775-586-8330 and leave their name and phone number.
