Smith, 22, was appointed after several months of testing and evaluation consisting of a written examination, physical agility test, oral interview, extensive background investigation, psychological evaluation, polygraph examination and medical exam.

He will now undergo a 12-week jail training program to provide him with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform his duties as a jail deputy. Prior to his appointment Smith attended and successfully completed Douglas County Sheriff’s 120-hour Reserve Academy.

A Gardnerville resident, Smith graduated from Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, Calif. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and is not married.
