The annual spring concerts of The Academy of Dance Arts is 6 p.m. May 16 and 17 in The Montbleu Theatre of Montbleu Resort & Casino.
Doors open at 5 p.m.
“Last year the theme for the ballet was ‘The Soundtracks of our Lives.’ Dances were choreographed to dozens of songs from a variety of different movies,” said Kelly O’Fallon, owner and director of The Academy of Dance Arts. “It was such a hit, we decided to continue the trend with ‘Soundtracks: volume 2.’ Once again, much of the music is jazzy and upbeat; using music from such movies as ‘Rio,’ ‘Armageddon,’ and ‘Country Strong.’”
After a brief intermission, the show will continue with the jazz, hip hop, lyrical, and tap portion of the show entitled A Walk Down Memory Lane.
“For the 10th anniversary of the studio, we picked favorite dances from the first 10 years and taught them to the new generation of dancers coming up in the studio. We tried to stay true to the original choreography. Now for the 20th, we have added a twist. There are songs throughout the show that have been used in the last 20 years, but only the song is the same,” O’Fallon said. “My teachers have picked some songs that they danced to when they were young and completely created new pieces of choreography that are absolutely beautiful and all their own. Add to that a variety of new pop and indie music, and there is a little something for everyone.”
