Piñon Hills hosts family literacy night

Piñon Hills Elementary School hosted a family literacy book fair event on March 25.

Students who attended the fiesta-themed family literacy night participated in literacy centers that included Karaoke to practice reading with fluency, make a fiesta-pointer, create your own fiesta bookmark, literacy games, fiesta photo booth, the book walk, read with a pet and read with a princess where Miss Lake Tahoe Shreya Khosia read books with students.

In addition, Terri Farley, author of Phantom Stallion, was available for book signings.

Parents were provided with the opportunity to purchase a fiesta plate taco salad, drinks and churros so they could feed their families and have optimal time to attend all of the literacy centers with their children.

The Douglas High School culinary arts program sent students to help serve the food for the evening.

The Piñon Hills PTO sponsored a Scholastic book fair where families could shop for books and gifts to provide additional books and funding for school programs.

Students who attended were given a License to Literacy raffle ticket which entered them to win prizes such as Amazon gift cards worth $150.

More than 250 students and their families attended the event.
