‘Rumors’ opens to good reviews
April 23, 2013
The cast of Carson Valley Community Theatre surprised even the director, Lucille Rao, during opening weekend of “Rumors.”
The final three shows of the Neil Simon comedy are this weekend.
“The writing is funny, and one of the ladies (Carla Wilson) is drunk for most of the play, which is hilarious,” Rao said. “Every night’s different. There’s always a new interaction among the actors. If you start out with a good script, and add very talented actors, you have a recipe for success.”
“Rumors” is a farcical play where several affluent couples gather for a dinner party celebrating their hosts’ tenth anniversary. However, when the host— the deputy mayor of New York City — has shot himself, comic complications arise when the guests try to conceal the evening’s events from the local police and media.
“It was a good choice. We received a lot of compliments from the audience,” Rao said. “There’s been a lot of talk about it the last couple days. It’s good to hear that.”
“Rumors” shows 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday in the CVIC Hall.
Tickets are $13 for seniors and students, and $15 general admission. A dinner and show package from Minden Food Company is available for $46.
