Pops spring concert brings the wacky and the spoofs
April 16, 2013
The Carson Valley Pops Orchestra opens their spring season April 6 with a free concert.
The “Great Goofs & Spring Spoofs” concert is 7 p.m. in the CVIC Hall in Minden.
Organizers said it will feature familiar music and a bit of theatrical fun.
“Col. Bogey will have them marching past the farm, previously owned by Ol MacDonald, as others await at The Edge Of Glory as they may think the Mission is Impossible,” Conductor Elizabeth Eubanks said. “Characters from Star Trek and Star Wars will be joining the chorus line for Les Miserables, as directed by the Pink Panther and PDQ Bach. A rare bassoon and piano, previously only seen in the wild, will make a special appearance. Doors open at 6:15pm and silly hats are encouraged.”
Carson Valley Pops is comprised of more than 30 local musicians, both amateur and professional.
The spring concert is one of the four free concerts the pops perform every year.
The pops orchestra also performs a Fourth of July concert, a fall concert and a winter concert.
All orchestra members are volunteers who enjoy sharing their talents with their community.
Eubanks said they are always in need of additional string performers.
Auditions are open to people of all ages who play a standard orchestral instrument. Auditions will be conducted as necessary by Eubanks.
The Carson Valley Pops rehearses 7-9 p.m. Mondays in the CVIC Hall.
