Joyce’s Fine Jewelry hosts annual Christmas card show
October 23, 2013
Joyce’s Fine Jewelry will be hosting the 33rd annual Christmas card release by local fine artist, Mimi Jobe, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 2.
Every year Jobe creates an original painting of the Carson Valley, typically a winter scene that captures the beauty of the Sierra, and produces the painting into a Christmas card.
This year’s Christmas card is created from the private collection of a local resident.
The 2013 Christmas card, signed and unsigned, can be purchased throughout the entire holiday season from Joyce’s Fine Jewelry, as well as Jobe’s Christmas cards from past years.
Cards may also be purchased in quantities or singles.
“Every year I look forward to presenting the new Christmas Card. Joyce’s has partnered with Mimi Jobe for the last 33 years in this event, it has become a legacy event for the community,” Norie Jenkins, owner and operator of Joyce’s Fine Jewelry said. “I am incredibly proud of our 33 years in the event partnership. For many Carson Valley residents our event is a tradition to begin the holiday season. This year’s card, Winter Landing, demonstrates Mimi’s amazing ability to capture the majestic wildlife and views of the Carson Valley. The card this year portrays dusk descending upon the Carson River Watershed, and geese flying in to find refuge before nightfall.”
The annual Carson Valley Christmas card came about when Jobe entered a competition of local artists.
Now, 33 years later, Jobe’s annual Christmas card is a part of life in the Valley.
The launch show is held the first Saturday of November every year at Joyce’s Fine Jewelry.
“This is my absolute favorite time of the year at Joyce’s. Our annual show has turned into an amazingly creative production, taking an entire year to plan the launch. And not only is it a community tradition, but a family one for us as well. As the whole Joyce’s family and superb staff get involved,” Jenkins said. “The card show throughout the years has become a major event for the Carson Valley, as well as our business, and we thoroughly enjoy hosting it every year. I helped my mother, Joyce Neddenriep, when she and Mimi started it 33 years ago. Now my mother and daughter, Krissie Thornhill, help me in executing the show.”
Despite the fact that Jobe has lived under the shadow of Jobs Peak, she says she has never had the urge to climb it.
Jobe believes that climbing to the top will not likely help her paint it any better.
“I’ve studied that mountain from every angle, I’ve flown over it, drawn and painted it over a hundred times, but never have trekked to the top,” she said.
On Nov. 2, this year’s Christmas card will be introduced along with other holiday treasures from ornaments and tabletop accessories to garlands, tree glamour, and season gifts.
Joyce’s will also be serving champagne and hors d’oeuvres the day of the event, and Jobe will be present to personalize, as well as sign the Christmas card.
Joyce’s Fine Jewelry is located in The Record-Courier Center at 1503 Main Street, Suite A, Gardnerville.
