Family day features gourd painting
July 8, 2014
We have arrived at the end of June; next weekend is July Fourth. We've said it before: Where does time go? And why is it only the good weather days that speed past, not the ones with the weather we don't like? (This is way too philosophical for a Friday morning.)
July 5 may be right in the middle of July Fourth weekend but it's a great time to bring family and friends to the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville. It will be our second Family Day offering free admission to all and featuring a demonstration on painting gourds by Charles Munroe. We will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
DCHS invites you out to Genoa for Sweet Sippin' Sunday on July 7. Join the Greater Genoa Business Association's Wine Walk from 1-4 p.m. DCHS has been selected as this month's recipient of the proceeds, so come out and support your local museums, http://www.genoasweetsippinsundays.com.
Our second Thursday Lecture Series on July 12 will be Jim Bonar, past president of the Nevada Chapter of the Lincoln Highway Association. Mr. Bonar will speak on the 1919 military convoy coming across the USA.
It's official. You can now stop by the Carson Valley museum to pick up your tickets for this year's Taste of the Towns. Or you may order tickets by phone by calling 782-2555. We've got some new restaurants and businesses this year along with many of your old favorites. Tickets are $20 for current DCHS members and $25 for all others. This is your chance to sample all those great restaurants in town and visit some of the businesses you may not have seen before. Bring your friends and comfortable walking shoes. You won't want to miss a thing.
As usual the Dangberg Home Ranch will feature summer Sunday concerts. The schedule includes: June 29: Notch 8, Americana; and Russell Ketenjian, Ballads and blues; July 13: Bootleggers, country and classic rock, Ten Dollar Pony, folk and blues; Aug. 3: The Mental Notes, jazz quintet; Milton Merlos, flamenco guitar; and Aug. 24: Mark Sexton Band, soul-funk; Vanessa Littrell, sultry piano and vocals. All concerts start at 5 p.m. Contact Mark Jensen, curator, at 783-9417, or visit their website for more information on this concert series as well as their series of Thursday night concerts.
