Big Mama’s raises $13,000 for Meals on Wheels

Staff Reports

A dusty blue 1967 Volkswagen bug beat out 126 cars to win Big Mama's Choice at Saturday's car show in Lampe Park.

Big Mama's Show & Shine raised more than $13,000 with donations still coming in, said recreation specialist Sheri Karosich.

"I would say it was the biggest turnout we've had even despite the cold wind. I'm very happy with how it went," Karosich said. "We had an awesome turnout from the public and sponsors. The community always pulls together with fundraising and they did it again."

Big Mama's raises money for Douglas County's Meals on Wheels program which delivers meals to homebound seniors.

Big Mama, Esther Hildebrand, said the decision of which entry she liked best was hard to make.

"I go with something a little bit different. It was so clean inside and out. It was to perfection," she said. "It was a nice thing because the owner said he'd never entered a car in a show before, so that made me feel good."
