Beginner, advanced students display work

Staff Reports

'Minden Scene' watercolor by Ann Proffitt. A student art show is Aug. 23.

The public is invited to a reception and art show put on by the students of Teri Sweeney's art classes 4:30-8 p.m. Aug. 23.

The adult students, ranging from beginning to advanced in watercolor and oil painting, will be presenting work that they have done both in class and on their own.

The beginning/intermediate classes, which are held 6-8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays in Gardnerville, and from 2-4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays in South Lake Tahoe, work off of references supplied by Sweeney and are walked through each step of the painting.

Students choose either watercolor or oil to work in, but demonstrations are given in both mediums. The intermediate/ advanced students, which meet 1-3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays in Gardnerville, work on projects based on a theme for the month, but bring in their own references.

On display at the show will be paintings in which the beginning students have worked off the same reference showing the diversity of styles within the classes. Intermediate and advanced students will have original compositions for sale.

The Carson Valley Community Theater group will be sponsoring a no-host bar and hors d'oevres will be served. Live piano music will be provided by Linda Sandstrom.
