Stars of Tomorrow compete for scholarships

The Carson Valley Community Theatre has completed auditions for the 16th annual Stars of Tomorrow Talent Showcase, a competition for performing arts students in the 9th through 12th grades.

“A large turnout of talented students auditioned for the show, and a record number of participants were selected to showcase their talents, organizers said. “Contestants will include vocalists, pianists, violinists, dancers, a monologue, and a poi exhibition, if you don’t know what that is, come to the show and find out.”

Students who have been accepted for the competition are seniors Loren Bales, Austin Dicky, Suzy Elias, Shelby Ence, Naiya and Bette Phillips, Catriano Pino-Haynes, and Kaitlyn Scott. Juniors competing are Ingrid Carlson, Samanta Vardas-Doane, and Jordan Sullivan. Also competing are sophomores Isabella Basche, Ali Cronin, Lillian Ezell, Rachel Lowe, Dalton Miller, Darrien Peck, and Dusty Winter, and ninth-graders Connor Brown, Raina Gallagher, Angelle Komp, and Maya Pinto-Haynes.

Judges confirmed for the event so far are Amy Heald, education director for the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra, and Stephanie Arrigotti, director of the performing arts program at Western Nevada College.

The winner of the competition will receive a cash scholarship of $1,250 and additional scholarships will be awarded for first, second, and third runner-up. In addition, there will be a $250 People’s Choice scholarship, which will be decided by the audience.

The competition is 7 p.m. Saturday,in the CVIC Hall in Minden. Doors open at 6 p.m. for the silent auction.

Tickets are available at the door on a first come, first served basis. Adult admission is $15, and admission for students and children is $8.
