A half-grown cinnamon bear was captured in Hope Valley this week and brought down to Woodfords, where it is in the keeping of Wm. Merrill. He is especially pleased with the fishpond in Merrill’s lawn and apparently is contented with his new quarters.

Charles William Jacobsen, well known young man of this community, was instantly killed last Thursday night, when a truck he was driving to Eureka, California loaded with two decks of sheep, hit a cow on the highway, turned over and pinned the driver beneath the heavy load.

Douglas County remained in fifth position in taxable sales during the fiscal year 1962-63, it was announced last week by the Nevada Tax Commission. Douglas had a total of $17,770,917 in sales, or 1.74 percent of the total for the state. Sales and use taxes collected in Douglas amounted to $349,778. Total taxes collected in the state totaled $20,136,965.

With less than two weeks to go to the Nov. 8 general election, one race already has been decided- who spent the most campaigning for election. The county clerk-treasurer’s office indicate that Assemblyman Lou Bergevin and Commissioner Jerry Bing are the big spenders in their re-election efforts, both topping more than $20,000 in their campaigns.
