Clock strikes midnight on 4-H pumpkin patch

After 20 years of hosting the Fall Festival and pumpkin patch at Lampe Park, Douglas County 4-H decided to try something new.

The Fall Family Costume Ball is 5:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the fairgrounds.

“The leaders decided to try a new event because there are a lot of other pumpkin patches around the area,” said Shannon Montana, youth development coordinator. “We wanted to go out on a high note and try something new.”

The costume ball will include dancing, a costume contest and a bring your own decorated pumpkin contest.

Carnival games such as bean bag toss, pumpkin bowling and balloon darts, face painting, and a photo booth are available for purchase.

“It has some of the same elements as the pumpkin patch,” Montana said. “This is our biggest fundraiser of the year.”

Cash prizes, sponsored by Joe Benigno’s Tree Service, will be awarded for most original, creative, funniest, scary and best overall costumes.

“We don’t want anything too scary or gory, but mildly scary costumes are welcome,” Montana said.

Pumpkin decorating and costume contests are 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Dancing begins at 6:30 with D.J. music by Cherie Shipley.

“This is the only family dance, and the community has been asking for something for the whole family,” Montana said. “It will be an evening of family fun, excitement and festivities.”

There will also be a silent auction with prizes including, spa treatments, dinners, hotel stays and dinners.

Pizza, sno-cones, pumpkin pie and soft drinks are available for purchase.

Tickets are $10 per person, and children ages 4 and younger are free. All youth must be accompanied by an adult.

Tickets must be purchased in advance by 5 p.m. Friday at the Douglas County Parks and Recreation Office, 1325 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. No tickets will be sold at the door.
