“The Classic Crapper,” the “Pot Rod” and more favorite portable “potties” return to historic Virginia City for the World Championship Outhouse Races Oct. 5 and 6.
With participants from across Nevada and California, the race is open to entries until Wednesday.
Taking place down C Street, the town’s main street, races start at noon on both days and are expected to last until approximately 3 p.m. A parade of outhouses takes place on Saturday prior to the start of the race. The event is free to the public and is comical entertainment for the whole family. Saturday audience members vote for the fan favorite outhouse.
The double elimination tournament accepts three person teams with one person riding and the other two pushing the outhouse. Outhouses must be functioning, but please, not used! Teams compete for cash and trophies as well as world champion bragging rights.
Outhouse themes vary in style and originality, encouraging teams, companies, groups or families to be creative. Past entrants include “The Flapper Crapper,” “The Haunted Outhouse,” “The Urinator,” “The Potty Poopers” and more.
The World Championship Outhouse Races are sponsored in part by Miller High Life and Comstock Mining.
