Fred Gray, who shot and killed Adam Dixon on July 4th at Genoa, pleaded guilty and was sentenced by Judge Rising to seventeen years in the state penitentiary.

There are no cases of typhoid fever at Gardnerville, caused by drinking impure water, contrary to reports notwithstanding. As a matter of fact Gardnerville boasts of having as pure water as can be found anywhere in Nevada.

With a majority of its wheat included, Douglas County last week became the first county in Nevada to organize its farmers under the federal wheat production control plan.

First-week enrollment figures in Douglas County schools show a total of 1,049 students, it was announced by Gene L. Scarselli, superintendant.

Bleachers, teachers’ lounges and other campus sites no longer reek of cigarette smoke, but some still huff and puff when encouraged to crush the habit. Promoting “tobacco free schools,” the Douglas County School Board passed a policy last spring to end smoking on school property.

Developers are hoping to complete infrastructure improvements by the end of this year to build a new housing and commercial development in Minden. Minden Village is an 18-acre complex with 17 commercial lots, 50 single-family homes, a day care center and a fitness center to be built-out in one phase next year.
