Dance, dance, dance comes to Montbleu for two nights only

The 19th annual Spring Concerts of The Academy of Dance Arts will be presented in The Montbleu Theatre located in the Montbleu Resort & Casino on May 17 and 18.

Doors open at 5 p.m., with the concert at 6 p.m.

“Last year our ballet Princess for a Day conquered seven story lines and was a huge undertaking,” said Kelly O’Fallon, owner and director of The Academy of Dance Arts. “This year we decided to mix things up a bit. Instead of a typical, classical fairytale story line, we have taken the theme ‘The Soundtracks of our Lives,’ and choreographed dances to dozens of songs from a variety of different movies such as ‘Tangled,’ ‘Tootsie’ and the ’80s classic ‘The Breakfast Club.’ Much of the music is jazzy and upbeat; not your typical classical ballet music.

“But that’s what made this past dance season so enjoyable. No technique has been sacrificed. The Academy of Dance Arts will always remain true to the belief that ballet is the foundation for all dance; and that dance is an art, not a competition.”

After a brief intermission, the show will continue with the jazz, hip hop, lyrical, and tap portion of the show entitled DJ, Play that song.

“From well known pop stars to lesser known indie artists; there is a little something for everyone. There is such an abundance of talent in the studio and for two nights in May, all that talent is displayed beautifully by each and every student, teacher and choreographer affiliated with The Academy of Dance Arts,” O’Fallon said. “We hope you will come and join us for a fun, upbeat and entertaining evening of dance.”
