Felix and the Soul Cats perform at Sharkey's

Rhythm & Blues band Felix and the Soul Cats perform 8 p.m. April 19 at Sharkey’s Casino.

Captivated by the sounds from the Mo-Town and Stax Records era, the band was founded by Felix Odion.

Odion has been performing soul, rhythm & blues and classic/contemporary blues material going back to 1992 with his previous band Cold Sweat.

Critics say his hard-edged vocals are strong and soulfully beautiful while holding down the guitar work also.

The Soul Cats consist of Omar Martinez, Michael Kelly and Jimmy Malone.

Martinez, while covering drums and percussion, also shares the lead vocals with Odion. He performed 34 years with Paul Revere and the Raiders as drummer and then lead singer. He has performed with Sting, The Righteous Brothers and still performs with Sam Moore of Sam & Dave fame.

Kelly on bass guitar has played with the Drifters and spent seven years with Sacramento’s leading fusion/blues guitarist Michael Gregory.

Malone’s keyboard talents have landed him work with The Temptation’s, David Ruffin, Percy Sledge, The Drifters, The Platters, Funkingrovin and Mercy Me.
