Abby Jo's Cafe Girasole wins Taste of the Towns

Two Valley busineses swept the award categories during Saturday’s Taste of the Town fundrasing event.

Abby Jo’s Cafe Girasole won best taste, best atmosphere and best overall, while The Chocolate Shoppe walked away with best discovery and best shop.

“We normally don’t like to do outdoor events in the summertime, but we decided it was for a good cause,” said Lynn Falcome, Chocolate Shoppe co-owner. “It’s wonderful and exciting they discovered us. We’ve been her two years and there are many people who never knew we existed.”

Due to the 95-degree weather, Falcone said the display pieces she had started melting, and she had to pack them in coolers. Other than that, she was thrilled with the exposure.

“We’re thrilled and honored that our local peers enjoy our goodies,” she said. “It’s really awesome.”

The Chocolate Shoppe is located in the Raley’s Shopping Center, 1363 Highway 395, Suite 7 in Gardnerville.

Abby Jo’s Cafe Girasole owner, Abby Jo Bryce participated in Taste of the Towns last year winning best atmosphere.

“This year we had live music which was really nice,” she said. “It’s a fun way to connect with the community. I really enjoyed it.”

Bryce served paninis, house salad, herbal water with cucumber, rosemary and lemon as well as mango-infused house ice tea.

“I’m glad the community came out and supported us,” she said. “Thank you for trying us out. We hope you had a wonderful time.”

Douglas County Historical Society trustee Dennis Little said the event had 107 participants, and raised more than $2,000.

“The no. 1 comment was ‘I can’t believe how much food I’ve eaten,’” Little said. “We had such wonderful providers. We’d love to have triple the participants next year.”
