Western singer opens acoustic series at Dangberg

Western guitarist, singer and songwriter Richard Elloyan will be joined by guitarist and singer Steve Wade in a performance Thursday at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

The duo, performing both Western music and cowboy poetry, is the first of four concerts in the park’s Twilight Acoustic Series. The series is sponsored by Bently Enterprises and SoaringNV.

Elloyan, a popular local performer, has released seven CDs of music, and was nominated in 2012 as male vocalist of the year by the Academy of Western Artists. His song, “Three Days and Forty Fires” was nominated as song of the year by the Western Music Association in 2013. He will soon be representing Nevada as part of an official cultural exchange trip to China, performing in three cities.

“Outdoor acoustic concerts are one of my favorite venues, and the Dangberg Ranch is a perfect setting,” Elloyan said.

Elloyan and Wade have played music together for more than 30 years, most recently performing as a duo for the past two years. Wade embodies the Western lifestyle as a cowboy, horse trainer and farrier in Washoe Valley.

The hour-long, outdoor performance begins at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 per person and tickets are only available at the performance, while they last. The gate opens at 5 p.m. Seating will be available, but visitors are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. Soft drinks and water will be available for purchase, or visitors can bring a picnic and their favorite beverage.

Others on the schedule in this year’s Twilight Acoustic Series are CW & Mr. Spoons performing Western ragtime on July 3, All Hat No Cattle performing country-western on July 24, and the Irish-Celtic music of Ciana on Aug. 28.

The park is located at 1450 Highway 88, about ¾ mile south of the Carson Valley Swim Center.
