The final list of grillers for the Family Support Council’s Grillin’ and Chillin’ Barbecue & Blues Cookoff is in and tickets are “down to the last few.”
Nancy Epstein, event co-chairwoman, said barbecue fans should head over to the FSC office soon to secure tickets before Saturday’s event.
“I’m looking over this list of grillers and my mouth is watering just thinking about what they’ll be cooking,” she said.
This year’s grillers are:
Nate Almeida from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office grilling ribs and fried onion strings; Gordon English of Unique Rotisserie making barbecue ribs; Kim Epstein of Toiyabe Builders making baby back ribs and coleslaw; Anthony Field of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department SWAT barbecuing pork ribs with barbecue sauce; John Holman of Carson Valley Medical Center creating smoky salmon lettuce wraps and splay-cocked soft tacos; John Koerner of Brilliant Blinds making Kona chicken; Rhonda Moore from Country Financial making “Shuckin’” good grilled oysters; Scott Smith of Scott Smith, Inc. creating smoked lengua with rioja sauce and cilantro lime crema; Travis Smith from Thumper Racing making pulled pork; Brent Tessman of GE making Texas brisket sliders and “big boy” beans; and Todd Wilkes of Warren Reed Insurance making pulled pork tacos with Nell’s Secret Sauce.
Music will be served by Reno-based blues band Buddy Emmer.
There will also be a children’s area with a bounce house.
The price of the ticket includes 10 tastings and one voting buck. Drinks will be sold separately.
“You’ll get 10 ounces of barbecue and Family Support Council will have a booth for corn on the cob, green salad and a roll,” Epstein said.
Judges for the cookoff are Sheriff Ron Pierini, Bill Chernock of the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce and newly selected judge Michael Nelson of Grafx8,
