120 years ago

May 11, 1894

While on his way to Markleeville last Monday, G. Selby found a small vial in the road filled with gold dust. No one has claimed the dust, so it is believed to have been lost by miners passing through.

May 8, 1914

The citizens of Minden, Gardnerville and the community in general have declared war on the ruts, bumps and sand piles between here and Carson and Sunday May 17th is the day set that an army of volunteers armed with picks, shovels and scrapers will advance upon the enemy and bring death to bad roads.

80 years ago

May 11, 1934

A party of surveyors established headquarters in the Farmer’s Bank building at Minden early this week and has started work of surveying the Kingsbury route to Lake Tahoe, which is to be rebuilt into a first-class highway by the federal bureau of public roads.

50 years ago

May 7, 1964

Beards are “in” in the Valley and trophies will be awarded June 13, in the Minden Park, for the blackest, reddest, longest, the best trimmed — and possibly a few other categories.

Columbia Cable of Nevada has until July 20 to repair its television system and upgrade service or the county could take punitive action against the company which has been the object of numerous complaints.
