County manager finalist for Oregon job

Douglas County Manager Steve Mokrohisky is reported to be a finalist for a county administrator’s position in Lane County, Ore., in a story published by The Register-Guard in Eugene, Ore., on Wednesday.

Lane County is located in west central Oregon and has a population of roughly 350,000 people.

On Wednesday, in a note to The Record-Courier, Mokrohisky said he had mixed feelings about the Oregon job.

“I love the work we are doing in Douglas County,” he said. “We have a strong board, an outstanding team and a great dialogue with residents. Plus, my family loves our life in Douglas County.”

When he and his wife, Liz, arrived in 2009, they had a 3-month old daughter. He started here as assistant county manager after moving from Milwaukee, Wis., where he worked for a decade.

“Now we have a 5- and a 2-year-old — one of whom will always claim Nevada as her birthplace,” he said. “I am conflicted ultimately on the right decision, but I have an obligation to my family to consider strong opportunities.”

Mokrohisky was 34 years old when he was named county manager on July 7, 2011, taking over for T. Michael Brown, who accepted a position as city manager of Hillsboro, Ore.

According to The Register-Guard, the five candidates for the job are meeting members of the public on Thursday, and a council member said it was possible they’d name a new administrator on Friday.

The advertised salary is $150,000-$175,000, plus benefits. the newspaper reported.
