120 years ago

February 23, 1894

The snow is ten feet deep between Glenbrook and the summit. The Carson stage reached a point near Saint’s Rest, and was forced to turn back. The mail was carried over the summit on snowshoes.

At the stockmen’s meeting held at Reno Saturday George Wingfield sounded a note of warning and urged his hearers to be more attentive to the duty of selecting and electing competent men to fill offices in Nevada.

Nevada residents are going to have a voice in what their children learn in school if the present intentions of Walter W. Anderson, state superintendent of public instruction, are fulfilled.

The Gardnerville Town Board awarded a contract last Friday to Curtis & Sons Construction for the Main Street Lighting project in downtown Gardnerville. The project will remove all wooden poles and overhead power lines and will also install decorative street lighting on the west side of Main Street (Highway 395) between Mission Street and Mill Street.
