The Douglas softball team got its season under way in dramatic fashion Thursday afternoon in California, beating Vacaville 3-2 on a walk-off double from freshman Makayla Shaver.
Vacaville got two runs in the top of the first and clung to the 2-0 lead throughout until Douglas rallied with a three-run seventh.
Freshman Kaitlyn Bowman pitched a complete game in her high school debut, striking out six, walking on and scattering six hits to pick up the win.
Illiana Brown led the Tigers at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and a run scored.
Bowman and Leonna Mortimer each had an RBI, and Mortimer, Bowman, Katie Kluever and Shaver each collected a hit. Bowman's hit was a double and Kluever had a stolen base.
