Kudos to the Douglas County commissioners and the community at large. By 2015, the Carson Valley will have a community and senior center they can be proud to say is theirs. The design addresses the needs of the community (young and old) and is within the means of the people it is proposed to support. We specifically thank the commissioners for their support of this important community facility.
Young At Heart with the help of Soroptimist International, many volunteers and lots of fundraisers, built the current senior center 36 years ago. We have outgrown this facility. Now, Young At Heart is actively committed in recruiting volunteers and fundraising, for the new community and senior center. Through the years, Young at Heart has donated thousands of dollars towards new freezers, ice machines, inventory systems, pots, pans and dishes, to help support our existing building. Now with the new community and senior center on its way, Young At Heart can utilize funds we have raised to help pay for new equipment for the kitchen, furnishings, and other amenities; but we have a long way to go.
It has been a long hard road saving these funds for this moment, but we feel it was well worth it. Should any in the community feel inclined to help Young at Heart meet the needs of the new community and senior center, we would like you to know we are a 501 C3 organization; donations are tax deductible. Your contribution can be undesignated or restricted to a specific area. In addition to the kitchen, we are also planning on equipping the new gift shop and ceramics craft areas of the new building as well. We may be contacted through the Senior Center (775-783-6455) or Young At Heart, P.O. Box 1042, Gardnerville, NV 89410
