Valley Catholics hold Mass on pope's last day

Carson Valley Catholics gathered at St. Gall Catholic Church for a Mass 5:30 p.m. Thursday on the resignation of 85-year-old Pope Benedict XVI.

At his last Angelus in St. Peter's Square, Pope Benedict said he would continue to serve the church after his resignation.

"At this moment in my life the Lord is calling me 'to scale the mountain,' to devote myself even more to prayer and meditation," he said in a statement posted on the Vatican website. "But this does not mean abandoning the Church; indeed, if God asks me this is precisely so that I may continue to …
