Local artists join Montana sale

Two artists represented by the Lone Tree Gallery in Minden have been selected to participate in The Russell: The Sale to Benefit the C.M. Russell Museum.

Teri Sweeney and Margo Petterson have each had a piece of art selected to be sold during the March 14-16 sale in Great Falls, Mont.

Sweeney, a resident of Gardnerville, who also teaches watercolor classes in Gardnerville and South Lake Tahoe, will have a piece in the wall auction at the Russell Museum.

Her work, "The Creamery," depicts a scene from Gardnerville of an historic creamery building.

"Up a Lazy River," Petterson's work of horses in a stream will be in the live auction. Petterson resides in Coleville, Calif.

Both artists have gained national recognition in shows throughout the West, with Sweeney currently preparing for Cowgirl Up in Wickenburg, Ariz., and the San Dimas Festival of Arts in San Dimas, Calif.

She has also recently been selected as the poster artist for the Genoa Cowboy Festival in May.

Petterson will be showing her work at the American Academy of Equine Art Spring Invitational Show and is a Signature Member of the academy.

Lone Tree Gallery features original art by both of these artists, as well as originals and prints by other nationally recognized landscape and western artists such as Howard Terpning, Andy Thomas, Charles Muench, and Bob Coronado.

The gallery is located at 1598 Esmeralda Avenue in Minden.

The mission of the C.M. Russell Museum is to collect, preserve, research, interpret and educate on the art and life of Charles M. Russell and his contemporaries.

Russell captured the landscapes, the spirit, and the culture of the West during the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Western Art Week has been taking place in Great Falls, Mont., since 1969.

The auction catalogue for the Russell Auction and tickets for the event can be obtained online at or contact the CM Russell Museum at (406) 727-8787.
