Three arrested for drugs in South Lake traffic stop

Three people were arrested during a traffic stop on Monday in South Lake Tahoe after a routine traffic stop.

According to the South Lake Tahoe Police Department, the trio were stopped in a neighborhood near Pioneer Trail shortly after 4 p.m. after the vehicle was spotted driving on the wrong side of the road.

Officer Travis Cabral said the driver, Brian Morris, 30, of Sacramento, said he had no identification and gave a wrong date of birth. As Cabral was checking Morris' background, he said the driver grew increasingly nervous.

Officers Jake Herminghaus and Matt Morrison who had K-9 Quatro arrived to back up Cabral, ordering all three of the vehicle's occupants to keep their hands in sight.

According to police, Morris began reaching under his seat and officers drew their weapons. Morrison opened the front passenger door and presented Quatro. Morris then put his hands up.

A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded handgun under Morris' seat next to 27.9 grams of what authorities belive is methamphetamine. An additional 5.2 grams of marijuana was found under the drivers' seat and center console of the vehicle.

Morris was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm with a prior violent offense, prohibited person possessing ammunition, concealed weapon inside a vehicle, transporting a controlled substance, driving while under the influence, providing false information to a peace officer, resisting arrest, conspiracy to commit a felony.

Jeremy Watkins, 39. and Michaelann Campbell, 43, were arrested for conspiracy to commit a felony and transporting a controlled substance.
