Seniors wanted to join 90-plus Club

It is time again for Douglas County Senior Services' annual 90-plus birthday celebration.

This year's 90-plus birthday celebration is 10:30 a.m. Feb. 20 at the Douglas County Senior Center located at 2300 Meadow Lane in Gardnerville.

"About 16 years ago, the senior center decided to honor those who had reached the age of 90 years old," Recreation Specialist Amanda Reid said in a press release. "At that time, we had 16 seniors who founded our 90-plus Club. Today, we feel it is just as important to acknowledge and celebrate those who have been inducted into the club."

Seniors will be presented with a certificate and flower.

This year organizers have invited more than 100 seniors, which includes new members who are turning 90 this year, as well as veteran members who were inducted in years past.

"This is a special day not only for the seniors, but also for the family members who attend the event," Reid said.

Inside the dining room of the senior center is a wall dedicated to the 90-plus seniors who each have a heart with their name and date of birth.

"The 90-plus and 100-plus Clubs grow each year and we are excited to be able to honor these special people and their lives," Reid said.

If you are not a regular at the senior center, but would like to come and join the celebration, call Reid for an invitation.
