Maverik opening brings changes to Minden's entryway

The opening of the new Maverik meant a lot of things to different people on Wednesday.

For a half-dozen people who were unemployed, it meant jobs.

For the Holiday Inn Express, it meant a new entrance.

And for Carson Valley, the addition will mean landscaping a desolate reminder of the economic collapse that turned it from a lifestyle center to a weed patch.

More than 70 people turned up to watch the ribbon cutting on the gas station located across Highway 88 from Douglas High School.

Minden Town Manager Jenifer Davidson said a $40,000 donation to the town that accompanied …
