Tahoe Dance Band performs for Valentine concert

The Tahoe Dance Band performs for The Carson Valley Arts Council's all ages concert and dance Feb. 8 in the CVIC Hall.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with a no-host bar provided by the Tahoe Ridge Winery and Bistro. The concert begins at 7p.m.

"All in attendance may want to dress in the style of 1930s and 1940s Big Band Era," organizers said. "Make it a date by dining out before the concert at one of the many fine restaurant in the area."

A 17-piece big band from South Lake Tahoe, the band plays the sounds of Glenn Miller, Count Basie and Tommy Dorsey while guests dance the fox trot, swing, waltzes, cha-cha, tango, jitterbug, and rhumba.

Tahoe Dance Band was founded in 1996 by Al Smith, band manager, who has collected a big band library of more than 500 arrangements.

The band is comprised of professional musicians from Tahoe, Reno, Carson City and Carson Valley.

They have performed at Squaw Valley, Lakeside Inn and Casino, Horizon Casino Resort, Kahle Community Center, Nugget Casinos in Carson City and Sparks, The Grand Sierra Resort, and Piper's Opera House in Virginia City.

They also perform a monthly dance at the Senior Citizen Center in South Lake Tahoe, usually on the last Friday of each month.

The Tahoe Dance Band was the recipient of the "Best Band" award from Taste of Downtown in Carson City for 2005, 2007 and 2008.

Admission is $10 dollars in advance, or $15 at the door.

The Carson Valley Arts Council is in a capital campaign to raise funds to retire the debt on the Copeland Lumber Warehouse.
