Failed underground cable cause of Indian Hills outage

A power outage that darkened about 2,000 households on Tuesday was caused by the failure of an underground cable.

The power went out shortly after 1 p.m., knocking out the stoplight at Mica and Highway 395 and trapping a woman in an elevator.

NV Energy Spokesman Karl Walquist said 1,200 customers were back in service just after 5 p.m. The rest were restored by 8:30 p.m. through rerouting of the the power source. The cable was located in a field east of Sunridge.
