Freezing fog is being blamed for more than a dozen accidents in the Truckee Meadows on Thursday. An advisory warning motorists of the fog was issued by the National Weather Service this morning. Visibility will be down to a quarter-mile in places until the fog lifts at about 10 a.m. Fog in Carson Valley tends to hang in the river bottom, so be careful crossing Cradlebaugh on Highway 395, and on the western highways between Foothill and the center of the Valley.
The stalking trial of Charles Meisler is expected to wrap up today. Meisler is seeking to call several expert witnesses, including the doctors who examined him at Lakes Crossing. Depending on if and how many the judge allows to testify, the case could go to the jury this afternoon.
Local, state and federal offices will be closed Monday for the Martin Luther King Day holiday. The post office and banks will also be shut down for the holiday, so best to conduct business that can't wait today
After the fog clears today, we'll see sunny skies and a high of 39 degrees. While highs will climb into the 40s over the weekend, the low temperature will stay in the cellar until Tuesday when they rise into the 20s.
