The Bureau of Reclamation today released for public review a draft report that presents alternatives to satisfy Newlands Project water rights and reduce risks to public safety from the Truckee Canal. Reclamation has scheduled three public meetings in January to discuss the Newlands Project Planning Study Draft Special Report.The study was initiated as a result of a January 2008 breach of the Truckee Canal that flooded 590 properties in the city of Fernley, Nev., and led to restrictions on the amount of water the canal may convey.
