Authorities detain suspect in connection with Topsy Lane bank robbery

Law enforcement officials have detained the primary suspect north of Johnson Lane in connection with an alleged bank robbery that occurred Friday afternoon.

Calls first came in at 12:54 p.m. indicating a suspect in dark clothing and a baseball cap was fleeing Bank of America and running toward Target. Witnesses saw the suspect get into a white, four-door sports car, with no plates, and head south on Highway 395.

Minutes later, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office responded to information that the car had turned east into a driveway between Stephanie Way and Johnson Lane.

At 1:10 p.m., law enforcement officials reported they had detained the suspect just north of Johnson Lane and that he had something strapped to his chest. Officials were not certain if the device posed a threat.

According to reporting parties at the bank, the suspect threatened to have a weapon and placed large amounts of cash in a backpack before fleeing.

The bank was later closed as investigators reviewed video tapes of the incident.
