Vernal Jones was born to Albert and Emma Jones in Vernal, Idaho, and was one of twelve brothers and sisters. He served in the Army during World War II, intercepting communications in the South Pacific. After the war, Jones met and married Mary E. Howard in Elko, Nev., and was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration where he worked as a chief of tower and flight control, an air space inspector and an aviation safety inspector for thirty-seven years. He fathered three daughters, Linda, Susan and Kathy. His career moved Jones and his family up and down the west coast until his retirement when they settled in Minden, Nev., in 1985. Jones was a member of The Lion's Club and was very active in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He enjoyed raising four of his seven grandchildren and was blessed with four great grandchildren. Jones is survived by his sisters, Ethel and Betty; his brothers, Richard and Robert; his daughters, Linda Preston and Kathy Jones-Tynes; his grandchildren, Wayne, Brad and Brett Preston, Jamy and Josh Galarza, and Whitney and McKinze Tynes; and his great grandchildren, Jace and Jamie Preston, Vance Pariseau, and James Preston.
