Douglas County unemployment in November dropped down to its lowest rate since January at 11.2 percent, and perhaps its lowest rate since the recession began. That's mainly because the total labor force is at its lowest point of the year at 20,720.

If not the apocalypse, today we see the end for the Nevada News Bureau, the independent nonprofit news agency whose stories we've run over the past few years. Chief reporter Sean Whaley will go back to work for the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Meanwhile the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and some partners are starting a free environmental newspaper.

So far most of the moisture and cloud cover associated with this storm is still sitting swirling over California. We're not expected to see much before 10 a.m. today. But there's not a lot of wind, and that's a good sign we won't see the storm shredded on the Sierra.
