Winter weather advisory issued for Carson Valley

A winter weather advisory for Carson Valley is forecasting 1-3 inches of snow between 1 and 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Slick and icy conditions are expected for Tuesday morning's commute with travel delays expected, National Weather Service forecasters predicted at 7:33 p.m. tonight.

The heaviest snow is expected 4-8 a.m., with snow and ice first developing on bridges and overpasses. Motorists are advised to slow down and use caution during the commute.

In the Sierra above 7,000, 4-8 inches of snow is expected to fall.

Chain controls are in effect over Echo Summit and Donner Pass. Highway 88 is closed for avalanche control from Silver Lake to Kirkwood. Chains or snow tires are required over Spooner Summit on Highway 50.

A 68 mph wind gust was reported at 5:48 a.m. in Walker south of Gardnerville.

The forecast for Tuesday is for snow showers before 4 p.m. with a high temperature of 27. Less than an inch of accumulation is expected during the day. The low Tuesday night will drop down to 7 degrees.
