Miller says he'll support rescinding TRPA divorce bill

Nevada Secretary of State Ross Miller said Friday he would support rescinding an effort to remove Nevada from the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency if the agency passes an update to its regional plan next week.

The Nevada Legislature passed Senate Bill 271 in June 2011. The bill threatens to withdraw the state from the TRPA if certain reforms to the agency are not made.

"I've personally testified in the Nevada Legislature in support of SB 271, which has clearly been effective in bringing stakeholders to the table to work together cooperatively," Miller said in a Friday email. "For that reason, I feel very strongly that we need to allow the Regional Plan Update to work. If the Regional Plan is adopted and not litigated, I intend to support any legislation that would rescind SB 271 in the next legislative cycle."

The TRPA's Governing Board is expected to vote on the Regional Plan Update during a meeting at Harveys Lake Tahoe Wednesday. The meeting starts at 9:30 a.m.
