EDITOR:On behalf of the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce, I’d like to say thank you to all of those responsible for a memorable 17th annual Parade of Lights. With all of the concern about the weather conditions leading up to the parade, by Saturday morning the forecast was favorable and by the time the floats started rolling, a warm, windy evening allowed participants and spectators to enjoy the outstanding collection of entries. We are grateful for our long lasting community partnerships that make the Parade of Lights possible and we look forward to making new ones. We tip our hat to the business community and individuals that support the parade, with special thanks to the towns of Minden and Gardnerville, Douglas County Parks & Recreation, Carson Valley Inn and The Record-Courier. The largest possible thank-yous to the Douglas County departments who were heavily involved in the parade planning, with special recognition to the personnel of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Citizens Patrol Unit, Search and Rescue Unit, the officers of the Nevada Highway Patrol and NDOT. They do an amazing job organizing the crowds and providing the traffic control to keep our streets safe during the parade. From the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce, we wish to thank everyone who created a parade entry or worked on the event to make it a success. The floats this year were among the best we’ve ever seen and we’re all looking forward to seeing what the float designers come up with for next year. We’d also like to thank our judges; Commissioner Michael Olson, Jeri Johnson, and Linda Koleff; parade announcers Jessica Jensen and Drew Aguilar; our Grand Marshall, retiring District Court Judge Dave Gamble and his car’s owner and driver, Bill Sugden. We have to thank Santa for making his annual appearance and Dwight and Dianna Borges of Borges Sleigh Rides for transporting him in style. We also salute this year’s winners; Family Support Council (nonprofit), Cub Scout Pack 33 (youth), Main Street and the Town of Gardnerville (government), 1862 David Walley’s Resort (business) Silver State Towing (theme) and Joe Benigno’s Tree Service (overall). Most importantly, we’d like to thank everyone who joined us out on the parade route. It’s not worth doing if the community doesn’t support it, and your turnout Saturday night says the Parade of Lights is worth all of the effort. Again, on behalf of the staff and board of directors of the Chamber, thank you and we’ll see you again on Dec. 7, 2013.
