120 years agoDecember 9,1892Fred Legare, a young man who was arrested on a charge of perjury, swearing his bride was eighteen years of age came up for hearing before justice Burnham Tuesday. The girl and Legare were present, also her parents, who claimed the girl was of legal age. The case was dismissed.95 years agoDecember 7, 1917It was reported here yesterday that three Swedes who have been working at Masonic, insulted a soldier on the train to Reno Tuesday night. The soldier was Fred Jespersen of this place who was returning to his company at San Francisco. The insults made him hot in the collar and since he is an out and out American he resented the slurs and in quicker than it takes time to tell, he threshed his three tormentors and did a good job at that. Fred is one of Uncle Sam’s fighting lads, and no doubt felt that the insults were being heaped upon his government rather than upon him. When two teenagers skating at the park — Jeff Hilderbrand, 16, and Jim Greco, 17 — said everyone is being punished by the afternoon closure of the park due to a graffiti incident, it’s clear it’s not just teens.
