Zephyr Cove Elementary School is taking a snow day today. Snow tires or chains are being required over Spooner and Kingsbury this morning, as well as Mount Rose. The California Highway Patrol is handling a slide on Highway 88 at Emerald Bay State Park. There's also a jackknifed big rig on Highway 395 at Conway Summit in Mono County. Chains or four-wheel drive are required over Echo Summit and Carson Pass this morning. There's a high-wind watch through Washoe Valley, so it looks like an interesting commute this morning.
There's a lot going on tonight in Carson Valley, including the lighting of the Minden Park gazebo and tree, Genoa's tree lighting, the Tahoe-Douglas Elks are playing Christmas tree bingo at the CVIC Hall. Then on Saturday the Parade of Lights marches through town. Details are available in today's edition of The Record-Courier on stands now.
It's a soggy morning so far today with .27 inches of rain showing in my rain gauge. Markleeville got .54 inches of rain since midnight. We had a 58 mph wind gust in Fish Springs at 2:33 p.m. Thursday. Today's forecast is for another third of an inch of rain today, with the chance of precipitation decreasing around 4 p.m., so tonight's festivities may get a break. The snow level on Saturday's supposed to climb to 10,000 feet, and if it keeps raining like this, a lot of folks are going to get their feet wet.
