Boise State fans urged to be careful going to Saturday's Wolf Pack game

Football fans traveling from Boise to Reno this weekend are urged by Oregon State Police, Malheur County Sheriff's Office, and Oregon Department of Transportation to make plans to include extra travel time, patience, use of safety restraints, paying attention to traffic and road conditions, and having a sober, rested driver behind the wheel at all times.

According to OSP Sergeant Bob Wilson, the coordinated enforcement effort is being conducted because of an expected increase in traffic of Boise State University football fans along Highway 95 in Oregon between the Idaho and Nevada borders for the 1:30 p.m. kickoff on Saturday.

Additionally, drivers should be aware of the potential for changing weather conditions that could affect highway travel safety.

"OSP troopers and Malheur County deputies will be working along Highway 95 Friday through Sunday with a special emphasis on targeting impaired and speeding drivers, as well as those who think it's OK to not buckle their safety belts," said Wilson.

Highway 95 is a popular route for traffic moving between Idaho and Nevada. During a five-year period between 2006 and 2010, more than 200 traffic crashes occurred on this highway, including nine fatal and 96 injury traffic crashes. The last two fatal crashes in 2010 both were

single vehicle accidents.

Travelers on Highway 95 this weekend are asked to keep these safety tips in mind:

• Have a game plan before you leave. Up to the minute road and traffic condition updates are available on ODOT's travel information website at www.TripCheck.com or by calling 5-1-1. For anyone who can't access 5-1-1, road and weather information can also be accessed toll-free within Oregon by calling 800-977-ODOT (6368).

• Be patient and alert so you can make safe driving decisions.

• Avoid distractions and keep your eyes on the road.

• Buckle up and have a sober, rested driver.
