East Fork Gallery ready for Christmas reception

East Fork Gallery members were in a flurry last week preparing for its 33rd annual Christmas reception.

The event is 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 2 at the gallery in Gardnerville, and features a complete show change by more than 30 artists.

"There's going to be a lot of one-of-a-kind artwork for reasonable prices," gallery member Jo Linda Smith said. "There's original art here by regional artists."

More than 100 pieces of paintings, photographs, sculptures, stained glass, fused glass, pottery and greeting cards will be for sale.

And Elfriede Short's popular hand-painted ornaments will be available as well. Each year, Short designs new ornaments for Christmas.

What started out 30 years ago as simple birds painted on Christmas bulbs has grown into manger scenes, birds, angels and landscapes with snowmen, skiers and horses.

"They're better than ever," gallery member Jo Linda Smith said. "It's her best work, just the details and quality of art on them. The people and animals are fabulous."

The ornaments vary in size, and prices start at $18.

Bring in a photo of a pet, and Short will paint it on an ornament. She also takes special orders for ornaments. Call the gallery for more information.

Door prizes of gallery members' work will be given away during the reception.

East Fork Gallery is located at 1503 Highway 395, Suite K, Gardnerville. For more information call, 782-7629.
