Great news, fellow Melodrama fans. Tickets for the 2013 DCHS Melodrama will go on sale on Dec. 1 at the annual Holiday Gala. We’ll be selling them on the front porch, right alongside the photos with Santa. You’ll be able to get tickets in plenty of time for Christmas giving. Melodrama dates and ticket prices are: Thursday, Feb. 7, no-host cocktail show at 6:30 p.m. Tickets $10. Friday, Feb. 8, and Saturday, Feb. 9, dinner show at 6:00 p.m. Tickets $20. And Sunday, Feb. 10, Annual Elks Club hotdog lunch show at 1 p.m. Tickets $15. This year you will be able to buy your Friday, Saturday and Sunday tickets by table; no more rushing for seating. When you buy your tickets, you will specify which table you wish to sit at and your ticket will reflect your choice. When you arrive for the performance, your seat will be waiting for you. You will need to get your tickets early as the best seating will sell out first. Your best bet this holiday season is our Dec. 1 DCHS Holiday Gala. There are things to do, things to see and things to buy. Remember the Cookie Walk will start at 10 a.m. and go until we run out of cookies. Do get there early for the best selection. Santa will be here around 10 a.m., but will leave by 2 p.m., so get those kids and grandkids there early for their photos. Your finished photos will be printed before you leave, all ready for Christmas giving. The best part is our prices are reasonable and we seldom have a waiting line. While your photos are being printed you can check out all the trees and gingerbread houses inside the museum. Speaking of trees today is the deadline for registering to decorate a tree. If you or your group would like to participate, call 782-2555 for all the information you need before 4 p.m. today. Tree set up is Nov. 26-29, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. There are a couple of rules you will need to follow but there is no entry fee. One final thing to remember while you are at the Gala. Don’t miss our bookstore. We have all kinds of unusual gift items perfect for anyone on your Christmas gift list. We have great stocking stuffers for the kids. And we have the best gift of all — a one year (or more) membership in DCHS. It’s affordable and it gives the member all kinds of price breaks including at our bookstores. They will thank you all year long. The Douglas County Historical Society will be honoring “Women in History” on Saturday, March 23, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center. We will be honoring six women who have made a difference in our local county. If you know of someone you would like to nominate, forms are available at the front desk at the Museum. The deadline for nominations is March 1, 2013. If you are not sure if your nominee has been honored before, call 782-2555. We have a list of past honorees. All monies donated to DCHS are 100 percent tax deductible and go to keep our doors open. The Douglas County Historical Society receives only occasional financial assistance from our county and state governments. We are here solely to preserve the history of this wonderful valley and to make sure you have the opportunity to enjoy it. If you have any questions about anything mentioned here, please call the Douglas County Historical Society at 782-2555 or visit our website at http://www.historicnevada.org/.
